Design Intent

This 8000sq ft food market launched by Brent Cross partnership is a harmonious blend of brutalist aesthetics, warm touches, and a vibrant sense of community.

The district was inspired by the brutalist architecture of Brent Cross, constructed in1976, this design scheme embraces the raw and bold elements of the era. It invites visitors to embark on a culinary adventure while immersing themselves in a space that celebrates the raw beauty of the past and the creativity and diversity of the present.

As you enter, you are greeted by the charm of warm-toned timbers contrasting with the industrial allure of the raw finishes. The combination of these materials creates a nostalgic and inviting ambiance. The strategic use of layered lighting adds depth and warmth to the space and enhances the overall aesthetic, creating a captivating and inviting atmosphere that sets the stage for a culinary journey.

Embracing the key elements of brutalism, this food market boasts blocky and heavy appearances, simple and graphic lines, and a monochromatic palette. The absence of ornamentation adds to the utilitarian feel, creating a space that is unapologetically honest and authentic. Raw, exposed concrete and rough, unfinished surfaces further amplify this sense of raw beauty and integrity.

The layout of the food market is carefully curated to create an immersive experience. The seating areas are strategically placed, creating pockets of communal spaces where visitors can gather and connect. Long communal tables foster a true community atmosphere. Interspersed among the communal seats are more intimate softer seating areas perfect for those seeking a quieter moment to enjoy their meal.
