For the interior of Gaucho City of London, the designer sought to create an atmosphere that is both dramatic and refined, drawing on the building’s extraordinary setting within the historic gold vaults of the former Bank of England.
The mood is deliberately immersive and intimate, balancing the gravitas of the City’s financial heritage with Gaucho’s signature sense of contemporary luxury.
Rich, tactile materials, subdued lighting and deep, warm tones work together to evoke a feeling of exclusivity and understated opulence, while carefully considered spatial planning enhances the sense of discovery as guests move through the vaulted interiors.
The result is a restaurant environment that feels timeless yet modern, confidently blending heritage architecture with sleek, cosmopolitan design to create a memorable dining destination in the heart of the Square Mile.
The Gaucho City of London project was delivered within a live, heritage-led environment, with the property requiring a sensitive refurbishment rather than a full shell-and-core redevelopment.
Working to a tightly managed lead time aligned with the wider construction programme, Just Contract Furniture was tasked with the supply and installation of a high volume of bespoke and standard contract furniture across the main restaurant floor, bar, private dining areas and ancillary spaces.
The primary challenges lay in coordinating logistics within the constraints of the historic vault structure, including restricted access routes, limited storage on site, and the need to protect existing architectural features throughout the installation process.
Despite these complexities, the project demanded absolute precision in programming, detailing and delivery to ensure the furniture complemented both the operational requirements of a high-end restaurant and the unique architectural character of the space.
From the very outset, Just Contract Furniture proved to be an exceptional partner on the Gaucho City of London project. Their approach to product sourcing was both highly responsive and creatively astute, with every recommendation carefully aligned to the design intent and operational brief.
The team managed complex lead times and site constraints with remarkable professionalism, maintaining clear communication and absolute reliability throughout.
Installation was executed seamlessly within a challenging heritage environment, with meticulous attention to detail and genuine respect for the space. Their commitment, flexibility and technical expertise played a significant role in the success of the finished interior, and I would have no hesitation in recommending Just Contract Furniture as a trusted collaborator on future projects
